The Tower of Babel!

What a day! Actually what a night but that started yesterday when Ro fell tripping over a kerb .  We were on our way back to the hotel after having dinner at Wagamama’s.  A young man appeared out of nowhere to help Son get Ro on his feet and he was ok but had bruised his hip again!  We had 8yo for the night and she was not for sleeping! It eventually happened and then we were trying not to be noisy!

This morning after spending ages brushing her hair we coxed her out to breakfast and then the three of them were off to Wembley!  Leaving me to my own devices!

I found my way to St. George’s Cathedral near the Imperial war museum and arrived just in time for a beautiful sung, Latin mass! After I had a look round the cathedral and went back to the hotel stopping for a chilli, chicken wrap! It was very good!

I fell asleep for a bit and phoned a friend and then headed for the Tate Modern.  I have chosen one of the exhibits for my blip.

“Cildo Meireles
Babel 2001, A tower of radios playing at once, addresses ideas of information overload and failed communication.

It refers to Babel has a ‘tower of incomprehension’. Comprising hundreds of radios each tuned to a different station the structure relates to the Biblical story of the Tower of Babel, a tower tall enough to reach the heavens. God was offended by this structure, and cause the builders to speak in different languages.  No longer able to understand one another, they became divided and scattered across the Earth, and so began all mankind’s conflicts.

Babel consists of the analog radios of varying ages, from large valve radios dating from the 1920s, which make up the bottom two layers of the tower, to the small mass produced electronic radios of more recent years, which form its summit. ………….. radios are interesting because they are physically similar and at the same time each radio is unique Meireles has commented. …….the noise produced by Babel’s constant but the precise mix of broadcast voices and music is always changing so that no two experiences of his work are ever the same. “

Somehow this feels very relevant to our world now.

It was nearly dark when I emerged from the Tate.  I arrived back at the hotel without getting lost!

The match produced much excitement: extra time and still no result. Penalties: 10:10 and the two goalies had to take the next two penalties!  Liverpool scored but Chelsea missed.  I feel so so sorry for the player that misses in these circumstances!  I wonder what happens when they all get their goals?  Do they start again?

Just waiting for Ro to get back to the hotel.

I have just joined a group of fans to have a burger in a place called The Honest Burger.  The Cut.  The best burger I have ever had?  Delicious!
