Mono Monday - Landmark
Jensphotos has challenged us with the theme Landmark today. Bathurst is best known for it’s motor racing circuit located on Mount Panorama (Wahluu). You can see the Mount Panorama sign for many kilometres when you drive into the valley and also from the city. This is taken from Panorama Avenue on the way to the track. There are homes and farms around the track and the speed limit is 60kph when it is not a race day. It is hard to go that slow on the straight roads ( Mountain Straight and Conrad Straight) but we only did about 25kph navigating the Esses coming down the mountain this morning. The drivers in the races go so fast it’s no wonder the are airborne at times.
Before colonisation Wahluu was a significant Aboriginal place where the men would watch over the surrounding lands (Wahluu means to watch over). Recently the local council wanted to build a go-cart track on a sacred Women’s site. There was much outcry from the Aboriginal and other concerned people and the Federal Environment Minister intervened to stop the process. There are plenty of other places to build the track I’m sure.
I’ve added an extra collage from our ‘lap of the Mount’ to show how green it is. Fortunately we have missed the terrible rain that the east coast is getting. The SES (State Emergency Service) is inundated by called from people stuck on their rooves. Lismore, which gets a lot of flooding only has 2 rescue boats. This flood is the worst since the 1800s.
Meanwhile Ukraine is trying to protect its old way of life. Who knows where this conflict is going.
