Old lead mine workings

These shafts are part of the quarry redevelopment at Matlock Sainsburys store, after popping in to get the tea I thought this may be of some interest. As the former quarry was being created it opened up the old workings that the lead miners used to get the ore. This area has a long history of lead mining dating back to the Roman era.

It would have not been my preferred occupation for certain.
