Mushy peas in Oz?!

Pie night at Rotary tonight. I'm no foodie so the chicken pie was ok by me but one of the choices for extras was mushy peas!! I haven't seen or even heard of mushy peas since I did veterinary locums in the north of England 40 years ago. The nurses who worked at the clinic used to smear it on their sandwiches for lunch. Now, isbi will tell you I'll eat just about anything but I used to baulk at that. Anyway, for old time's sake, I tried some tonight and I can confirm it goes ok with pie and chips.
