Older Grange
Grange over Sands started out as a few fishermen's' cottages around a wooden pier. The carriage route across the sands from Morecambe, a very hazardous journey, also arrived at Grange near the Commodore Inn just to the right of this picture. Everything changed with the coming of the railway in 1857 and most of the old town was developed in the later Victorian and Edwardian eras when visitors came to enjoy the sea air and to board boats at the pier to sail around Morecambe Bay. The picture shows two of the older buildings in the town. A plaque says that the building on the left has in the past been used as a meeting place for the Plymouth Brethren. The building to the right is a later extension and is now a coffee shop/cafe.
