Hina Matsuri Day

3 March in Japan is Hinamatsuri, a special festival set aside to commemorate the growth, happiness, and prosperity of young girls.

Traditionally, the hina doll is believed to protect the young girls in the family by carrying their illnesses and misfortunes for them. Boys are celebrated in a similar festival in May.
