to Xanten

The Archäologischer Park Xanten is built on the remains of the Colonia Ulpia Traiana. A large site with avenues lined with trees. It is the original street pattern of the city with which these trees are marked. Here and there are some reconstructions of Roman buildings.
We have been there before, but had little time at the time and did not visit the museum which is located in one of the buildings. Today we have seen everything. It's been worth it. The large empty area is impressive. The Roman city with about 10.000 inhabitants covered 73 hectares and had a central function. In front of the eastern city wall was a large harbour on a tributary of the Rhine.

It has been a educational day.
