Ancient stone carving

Drove up to South Wales this morning to attend the funeral of Anne Alice Beavan in St Gwytherin Church, Llanvetherine just four months after her husband, Trevor. Drove up in lovely weather and very little traffic with a couple of stops and got there at 12.00 with the funeral being at 13.30. Always learn a lot about people at the funeral. She was a farmer’s daughter and a farmer’s wife and had five children to bring up and a bed and breakfast to run to make ends meet. A great cook and an avid letter writer and artist making her own cards to send to children and grandchildren.

Sian played the organ and sang the extroit which was a rewritten version of Country Roads Take Me Home. All the family joined in with the chorus and it was magical. The burial was in the adjacent graveyard with Trevor. I walked from where I had parked the car to the farm for light refreshments! Mounds of food as befits a farmhouse and the whole house being warm and inviting.

Stayed a short while then headed back to Plymouth in the same beautiful weather till sedgemoor services, not the nicest, but had a coffee and waited till the sun had gone down to continue the journey accompanied by the new moon. Walked around the William yard when I got back and marvelled at the stars in the clear sky

Extras: beautiful countryside with my shadow, the only selfies I can manage, they have mighty moles in Wales!, more stone carvings in the church from the early 18th century, the font with flowers, special dispensation for Lent!, stream flowing under the road, moon setting, sky at night
