Feeding the cattle

Andrew is keeping these young ones at The Meadows, away from the main mob, so that the heifers don’t get in calf too young. They are from the mixed mob from outback Queensland which he bought last year. The British breeds have quietened right down. There is a brindle steer with a touch of Brahman which is still a bit suspicious. And a black heifer with big floppy ears and dewlap, indicating a lot of Brahman blood, and she is very lively and toey. I have heard that the Brahmans can be either skittish or very quiet and gentle.
The dewlap is the loose skin under the neck which allows animals from hot climates to lose heat.
