postman’s park
Early this morning I went to check on todays trains to London. They only run hourly from Uckfield so if one is cancelled it can cause big problems….and just as well I did because the train I had booked a couple of months back no longer existed on the timetable. I would have to catch an earlier train, which meant less time with Mum and Dad, but two hours to get from London Bridge to Kings Cross, which was nice because it meant that I could fit in a walk.
I visited some more of my old haunts, this time from the 1980s when I was at St Barts. I wandered around the hospital grounds and Smithfield, and went into Postman’s Park, where D and I used to sit sometimes. It is home to the Watts Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice (see extra for some of the memorial plaques).
I arrived at Kings Cross with time to spare, and my train to Newcastle was on time, as was the next one from Newcastle to Carlisle. I even had a chance for another wee wander outside the station. I’m now speeding (sort of) towards Carlisle. One more train to go.
Back to work tomorrow…
