Goldfinch

Today's the day ....................... when they came

'If you build it, they will come ........'  - to slightly misquote a line from the 1989 Kevin Costner movie, Field of Dreams.  He was talking about baseball, of course.  I'm talking about goldfinches to the new birdfeeder full of nyger seed, one of their favourite things to eat - but the principle is the same.

I'm still left wondering though, how do they know it's there.  It's in a completely new spot, on the other side of house.  Perhaps nyger seed gives off a particular scent that only goldfinches can pick up.  They're certainly the only birds that can manage to extract it from those specially-made tiny holes.

The fact is, they have found it as witnessed by the above and hopefully they'll keep coming to delight us for the duration ......................!
