They're Back!
After reading about "Art", an Osprey that was banded with a tracking device by the Squam Lakes Science Center, had returned to NH, after a 5000 mile journey to Brazil, I was curious to see if Mr. & Mrs. Osprey of Gilmanton were back home.
Art had been the topic of conversation during these past few weeks as they were tracking his journey back home. We were amazed that he flew all that way during the winter. I had no idea! Everyone was so excited to hear he made it back, safe and sound to his "wife"
The last few years I have been visiting a small pond, off the beaten path, and photographing a pair of Osprey, as well as 3 pair of Blue Heron. It's a wonderful little wildlife refuge with many birds, ducks, beavers etc.
Last week I went there to see if they were back, and nothing! The pond was still frozen, and there was no sign of wildlife. Yesterday, the Science center said their osprey, Art, was expected that day.
This morning I went to my spot and sure enough, there was Mr. and Mrs Osprey, building their nest, (or rebuilding it, because they use the same nest every year)
Also, in the trees beside and behind them were 3 0r 4 pair of Blue Heron, also building their nests.
Such a wonderful sight! I could stand there for hours watching all that goes on, I probably will, because I like to see what they are up to!
I don't know if they also flew to Brazil, but I think I saw them dancing the Samba on top of the tree!
