I thought I liked Edinburgh
but now I'm not so sure.
MOH and I set off to the park-and-ride at Ingliston, parked the car and asked for advice on the best bus to get into the centre of the city. Caught a number 35 as advised and went on a tour of some of the most celubrious areas of Edinburgh arriving at our destination 1 hour and 15 minutes later.
We met #2 son and had a lovely lunch and a look around the office where he works then made our way to the National Museum of Scotland - or so we thought.
On the advice of the next bus driver we got off at Waverly Station leaving ourselves quite a walk. Two wrong turnings and we arrived at the museum with so little time we only got round the first floor before it closed. To top all this I had taken my wee point-and-shoot and it wouldn't work so I had to use my phone - not the best!
We left and three more wrong turnings later ended up at the Haymarket end of Princes Street, the opposite end from where we wanted to be, according to the park and ride map we had for reference. (Considering Edinburgh is a tourist destination there are very few no street boards with maps to show visitors where they are and how to find their way around). The leaflet said we had to get a no 12 or x12 bus so we went in search of the bus stop, walked the full length of Princes Street and eventually found one outside Waverly Station.
A no 12 arrived but didn't go to Ingliston. Then we spotted a no 5 to Ingliston. MOH waved it down and asked the driver if it was going to the park and ride - success - and the driver very kindly let us on although he was not at a stop. There is no mention of a no 5 bus on any of the blurb but I didn't care, we had been walking for almost an hour and a half and my feet were killing me. It was good to sit down! A direct route to Ingliston and we were back at the car in 20 minutes.
I guess I'm just a Glasgow girl at heart.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts yesterday for Ruaridh. He is back home now and, although in a little discomfort, back to normal.
