Ups and Downs

Its been a bit of a rain stopped play sort of day.

Its the cricket season, the average person will not have noticed this. In fact if told they may be very suprised that there is any cricket being played in the country in April. Its too cold and windy and probably wet.

This is county cricket, that last century sort of cricket, the game that is played over 4 days between teams with historic names like Lancashire and Worcestershire when each team has two goes at building a total of runs, two goes at bowling out the other team, that sort of cricket. The sort that is often ruined by rain and has a tendency to end in a draw ( that means nobody wins )

You may see that I am a Traditional member of Lancashire cricket club. Scots born living in Derbyshire it doesn't add up really but it's just something that started in the 1960s going to Old Trafford test matches, then county matches in the 1970s - but really honestly very infrequently and I became a member in 1977 so I suppose I am a traditional member - I'm one of those empty seats at Old Trafford.

The morning after the night before......
I typed this very late and forgot to explain the title to anyone who doesn't follow County Cricket that would be about 95% of the population at a conservative estimate.

The up was that after most of a century Lancashire won the top level County Championship in 2011, the down was that the were unfortunately so poor in 2012 that they were relegated to the lower (2nd) division of the County cricket system.

Will they be promoted back to the top level in 2013, well possibly but why is it that I think the weather may be a more important factor than the cricket.
