Watching

I've been watching the activities of a pair of magpies in the garden recently, slowly assembling a nest at the top of the silver birch in the garden.  What looked like a few random twigs a few days ago now looks much more nest-like. 

Assuming it is the same pair as last year, it looks as if their regular nesting spot further down the garden has collapsed so they've looked for the nearest tall tree.  The new nest site isn't as sheltered as the old one, so I hope the big storm season is behind us.
