A late arrival
Still the news from Ukraine dwarfs much of daily life; sometimes I feel as if all that horror sucks the energy out of everything else. I've been listening to BBC Radio 4's 'Ukrainecast' podcast. Also the new 'Putin' podcast, from Radio 4, which delves into Putin's early life. Somehow the effort to understand, to 'make sense', is something that I find calming.
The garden is a good source of solace. I've been pulling up strawberry plants from two beds which were beginning to look past their best last year. This year I'll plant something different there, and start off a strawberry bed elsewhere. As I was going to and fro with buckets of debris for the compost bin, I almost missed the snowdrop that has pushed its way up and into flower in one of the pots I planted months ago. I like the way you can see fragments of decaying wood and bits of stone around it; none of that has prevented the delicate snowdrop from making its way into the light.
