An Evening With Steve
My brother Steve is a professional print maker. His workshop is in his home. This evening Shelly and I went to his house for dinner and a tour of his work areas. Shelly had never seen Steve’s studio. Steve walked us through the steps he takes to create a four color aquatint etching. Shelly was amazed at the complexity of Steve’s process. Steve uses his own photos for reference but the process is not photographic in any way. The photo he is showing Shelly is the reference. He’s finished the blue plate and is working on the red. Then come the yellow and the black. He uses the little pot of asphaltum and a tiny brush to paint out areas that won’t be etched next time the plate is bathed in acid. You can learn more about his process on Steve’s website. http://Www.sonic.net/aquatint
