Kalanchoe

Kalanchoe is a genus of the succulent family.

The botanical name is the Latinization of the Chinese folk name "Kalanchauhuy".

More than two hundred species are known. Many of them come from Madagascar. They are so-called short-day plants. This means that they only start to form flower buds with less than twelve hours of light per day.

The species require little water, a lot of sun, and a place that is not too cold in winter.

The flowers of the white-flowering Kalanchoe are often used in food.
