Orienteering in Helmsley

Today we drove to the North Yorkshire Moors to take part in the heat of the CompassSport Cup.  It is a three line whip for all Club members so it was good to catch up with folks we haven't seen in a while.

I made a route choice error to my first control but, after that, I kept in touch with the map throughout.  A NATO orienteer caught me up due to the error so I was determined to keep in touch with her.  She was faster but I was more accurate so after the first three controls I was ahead.  I managed to stay so until the finish but she had a shorter time due to that error.  I was also pleased to be just four seconds behind Kiteseeker!

Tony scored the highest for our Club, the full 100 points, woohoo!  I scored 96 points which is my best result in a long, long time, so all in all a successful outing.  All this means that our Club will travel to the final near Stirling with South Yorkshire Orienteers.

We gave an orienteering friend a lift home after a car breakdown (thankfully jump leads eventually did the trick) and there was just time to get the chicken in to the oven on our return.  We had a guest for dinner, a young neighbour (who also happens to be in our orienteering club).  He has ripped out his kitchen and is living on microwave meals so we invited him to Sunday dinner.

As we drove out of Duncombe Park we looked across to the Castle and it had to be my blip.
