Land of the free

I’ve intermittently visited the staff break room on my floor of Hunter College for about 15 years now, but this is the first time I ever noticed the “Active Shooter” instructions posted by the door. Those of you outside America probably cannot imagine living in a place where just about anyone can easily purchase firearms by mail order. It is truly a horrific state of affairs. Luckily I have never needed to heed these instructions, and I hope I never will — but they still make for unnerving reading.
