Great Crested Grebe #35
We've not been to Lunt Meadows for a few months as it is normally very muddy in the winter, but decided that after last week it might have dried up a bit today, and we were right. It wasn't too bad at all.
We saw 41 different species and the weather in the morning was lovely, but no newbies for this year today.
We saw a Marsh Harrier from the hide(unusually it was open today), a couple of diving goldeneyes right in the middle of the big pool, and a few distant goosanders, all of which would have been great to add to my journal. However, a combination of poor settings choice by me, distance and the sun being in the wrong position made most of my shots ready for the deleted bin. I was having a really bad day. Even this Grebe is not that good, but I don't think I've ever seen it displaying like this before. It must have worked as it soon swam further away and paired up with another bird.
It turned quite windy and grey before lunchtime so we headed home. As we were leaving the car park I was commenting that it was unusual for us not to have seen a kestrel, and, as if by magic, the female in extras started hovering just above the car. I was able to get a few shots from the window before it was disturbed by a couple of cyclists.
The car went in for its MOT this afternoon and came back with an advisory for one of the front tyres. This would have been fine if they weren't supposed to have been replaced in December when we had it serviced.....!
The garage is looking back into its service records and will call us tomorrow, so I will be interested to see what they find as we definitely paid for two new tyres and on the service record its the front tyres that had the least tread and were recommended to be replaced. Maybe they did the rear ones instead.....?
