Life through the lens...

Robin Hood.

A glorious morning.
Early visit to Birstall market for fish. Tonight’s dish will be Cod Provençal. We also bought fish cakes for tomorrow.

It was then a drive along the M62 for our 6 monthly checkup at the dentist.
Fortunately neither of us needed any treatment. Just a wash and brush up!

As usual we then carry on to RSPB Fairburn Ings, as it is only a few miles further.
Although sunny there was a very cold wind. The lakes looked more like the sea as the wind whipped up the water.
Not many birds about, and our favourite hide was closed because of flooding.
However we did manage to see the vivid flash of a kingfisher.

The main activity was on the river where this little boat passed us.
Called ‘ Robin Hood’ and owned by the Canal and River Trust. It was pushing what looked like some wood for repairing a lock somewhere further down the river.
They are spending about £3 million pounds on repairs to the Aire and Calder Navigation.

After a picnic lunch we went to the other end of the reserve, near the visitor centre.
In previous years I have seen dozens of frogs in one of the ponds, but today there were none to be seen. However we were shocked to see the damage the recent floods had done. ( see extras)
Hopefully it will look much better when everything starts growing again, although the walkways will need some attention.
We got chatting to a couple of chaps who had come down from the North East. They were a bit disappointed that they hadn’t seen much.
Especially as they missed the kingfisher.
Both had cameras with huge lenses.

For us it has been a very enjoyable day.
Now having a cuppa and watching the racing from Cheltenham.
Happy St Patrick’s Day to you all.
