Then and Now.

I've been meaning to get this (Bottom shot) for some time now, before HS2 thunders through our beautiful countryside. The building of it is sad enough to see as it carves  through our beautiful countryside, demolishing ancient woodlands and homes along the route.

Rothchild's house, now the  RAF Officers mess is more visible in the top picture taken in 1917. Trees were felled to provide timber props for the dug-outs on the Western Front. Now it is surrounded by trees, and only just visible. The camp had been tented, but here they have been replaced by wooden huts. Today they are brick 'blocks'. I lived in one when I arrived  in 1972 .... Who knows what tomorrow will bring as the camp is due to close. Our changing world.

The railway is still there, as is the bridge over the line, albeit a more substantial and covered one.

J commuted to London for 22 years, so he's crossed that bridge hundreds of times.

Added an extra. My friend is involved in packing up 'snuggle packs' for Ukraine. This batch are going to a maternity unit and she kindly sent me this with one of the baby grows I bought yesterday. Lovely to see these little packs made up. It was an alien isle for me to shop in - Maternity and baby bits, but it was good to be doing something that felt tangible.
