Bone Density Scanner

I had a bone density scan today. It was rather amazing, I thought. I'm fascinated by how our bodies are out together; these bodies that allow us to do so much (or little, depending on our condition).

I asked the lovely technician if I could take a picture of the scanner and she said 'that seems only fair since I've just used the machine to take pictures if you'. Most generous!

She then showed me the scan if my left hip. It was sooooo cool to see my very own femur and pelvic girdle, to see the greater trochanter that gives rise to my womanly hips. I've never seen them before, never having had a break in that area, despite walking around with them for 46 years.

I know some people find these things ghoulish but I just don't understand why. As a massage therapist, I spend my working life trying to help people feel more at ease, more at home in their own bodies and a good knowledge of how it's all put together is essential.

The technician said that she can tell people apart by their scans; that we're all unique, right down to our skeletons. Isn't that something?! It reminded me if a saying that it's better to live your own life imperfectly than to live an imitation of someone else's life perfectly.

I'm off to be imperfect in my own little way. I wish you much happiness in your own imperfections. xx
