Magnificent Mile

This is the Chicago Watertower, built in 1869. The tower gained prominence after it was one of the last buildings standing after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The structure has not been universally admired. Oscar Wilde said it looked like "a castellated monstrosity with pepper boxes stuck all over it.

In the background is the 100-story Hancock Building which stretches into the clouds. They don't call it The Magnificent Mile for nothing,
