I've noticed these little metal tags on many of the utility poles here and we've seen and talked with workers drilling into the poles to check for decay. I liked how this one added over the previous one looked. Not sure about the red paint and what the little metal curved piece is for - and now I have to go back for another look because I was focused on the tag!
