Sunday Morning with Alice
I finally completed all three of my Alice in Wonderland 3-D mixed media collage projects. One in a glass box shows Alice with the exploding black and white illustrations from the book done by John Tenniel. This fantasy novel of 1865 was originally entitled Alice's Adventures Under Ground. It was written by the Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, using the pseudonym Lewis Carroll (1832-1898). The second, in the back, is a book that opens to reveal the wild world of Wonderland in full color. The third in the foreground is the most complex. The box opens five times to different scenes from the story, Through the Looking Glass. Through the Looking-Glass, in full Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, was published in December 1871. It is the sequel written by Carroll. If you want to learn about the real Alice, the daughter of a dean at Oxford University where Dodgson/Carroll was a math professor, here's a link. I saw the wonderful Alice stained glass windows at Oxford when I visited in 1990 dedicated to Carroll. I've added two collages of details from the second and third. Time to move on to other projects!
