Strange Saturday

The weather has taken a turn for the better. I mean, it is still shite, but the white shite has now been replaced by wet shite, so while the roads are still slick, you can go more than 30 km/h. This was handy, as I left it till late to drag myself out of bed to drive Ottawacker Jr. to his early morning football match.

The game itself was weird. Ottawacker Jr. played in goal for the first half and had absolutely nothing to do. He ran out of his box to clear a through ball at one stage, but that was it. And when he came out, he was victim to the inevitable rolling subs. The game finished 1-1.

Drove home in moody contemplation of the general ineptitude of Canadian soccer coaching. If my hips were any good, I'd get back into it. But they aren't - and I enjoy watching him play.

As the day had become wet, I repaired to the basement and made a valiant attempt at putting away the piles of stuff that had accumulated. Before I knew it, it was dinner time - and then movie time - and then bed time.

Before going in, I checked my emails and found out that the EVP of the government council I had worked at until 2017 had died. He was very young - 62 - and ran, did yoga, lived life healthily and well. He went suddenly, so I imagine it was a heart attack. He was one of the good ones. When I stormed out of the Government, slamming the door in high dudgeon, I fondly imagined I'd never see 95% of the people in the executive again. He would have been the exception.

I still struggle to get my head around life and, especially, death. All you can do is live well for as long as you can.
