along Roman Roads
In the backyard there is slowly more empty space. Bert smashed the terrace and garden path, which was made of concrete, into small and larger pieces. For the last part, he had to rent a device on Friday. Together we dragged all the concrete chunks to the end of the garden, where we can leave it for the time being. We are in no hurry.
At a quarter past ten we got on our bicycles. I had a dentist appointment in Maastricht and Bert was able to cycle a bit in the meantime.
On the way back we saw a new border marker that tells us that there was once an important Roman road, the Via Belgica that ran from Boulogne-sur-Mer via Tongeren, Maastricht and Heerlen to Jülich and Cologne. More and more information is coming along the centuries-old route and perhaps we are a bit too early with our plan to cycle the route in May. On the other hand it's maybe for the better too because I tend to stop at each information point to read the info. We wouldn't get very far.
