A perfect day
As it was last time we were here exactly 10 years ago.
His do I know that? Blip of course and that was on our 37th wedding anniversary and today is our 47th.
Believe it or not I didn’t actually plan it but did check blip to see when we were last here.
A glorious morning again and perfect for our 4 mile walk around Cartmel Fell. We started out at St Anthony’s church which celebrated 500 years in 2004!
Open fell and woodland in equal amounts. Lots of wild daffodils in the woods as seen here and sheep in abundance. The pretty little Sow How Tarn is the same spot I photographed last time.
We love the gentle hills and pretty villages in this area probably stemming from my parents having a caravan here for more than 20 years in the ‘70s, ‘80’s and early ‘09s.
We like it here more than the more obvious and grander Lakeland spots although we do like to visit them too. One big advantage is it’s very peaceful.
We saw one other walker and two pairs of cyclists .
A sadder sight on this visit was the number of fallen trees. No doubt many were due to the trilogy of storms we had a month or so ago. In the last stretch of woodland returning to the car we had to climb over several that were blocking the path.
We tried a couple of the pubs we used to visit in the nearby villages. The Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge looked open but wasn’t but the Brown Horse at Winster was. I had a coffee and Chris had a beer which we enjoyed outside in the warm sun.
An interesting sight in the beer garden was the cigarette receptacle requesting people not to use it at as the blue tits were currently nesting in it!
Then spent a pleasant hour at Fell Foot Park, which was very quiet, before returning to the hotel.
We had booked an alternative afternoon tea and the last booking time was 3.45pm.
It was huge - extra. We’d seen some people coming out carrying boxes and like wise we had to take a couple of sweet things away for later. Chris had the triple board of beers and I had Prosecco and we could have as much tea as we wanted.
So glad we were able to get away this year, couldn’t go out anywhere for the past two years, our anniversary in 2020 being the week of the first lockdown, so both those celebrations were postponed till the autumn.
Recovering now!
(Oh dear I’ve got more Prosecco to drink too as we had a bottle waiting for us in our room!)
