Ancient yew
We all visited Kingley Vale this afternoon - a short drive from where we live now. I wanted to see the old yews again - and our son had never been there. He had a great time doing photography and this is one of his photos. I took plenty on my phone, but it couldn’t deal with the mixed lighting in the woods as well as his camera did.
I’m hoping to put a few extras in - one of them showing the carved wooden monument depicting that the old yews were used for target practice by Spitfires in the Second World War. Unbelievable really! Apparently you can still see gunfire holes in some of them. The whole valley was used by the military and there were warnings not to touch anything metal lying in the ground in case it was dangerous!
The sky has been clear blue all day and the sun was hot. There was a cool breeze in places though, so it was coats on, coats off sort of weather!
