National Day Of Reflection

Two years since Boris announced the first lockdown, today is National Day of Reflection, a chance to reflect on how COVID has affected us both individually and as a society.

We went over to Wells this morning and walked through the gardens at the Bishop’s Palace, which were looking resplendent in the sunshine.

Both the gardens and city were busy with people enjoying the summery weather and it struck us how everyone, ourselves included, seem to appreciate these simple pleasures so much more now. 

I’ve blipped this scene before but it seemed to reflect the day, as does Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s poem, Only Human, written for the day and premiered at a service at York Minster earlier today. Here’s his reading of the poem:
