Blackthorn

"Into the scented woods we'll go, and see the blackthorn swim in snow' ( Mary Webb - Green Rain but obviously derived from Housman's Loveliest of Trees which was published 3 decades earlier)

This blackthorn grows in a hedge at the edge of a small copse and suffers from brutal hacking back by the council roads department. Every Spring its starry white flowers are a delight.
