A walk

... by the River Eden before the long drive back to London.
I then spent a substantial part of the afternoon trying to sort out the electric again. This time EDF. I opened a letter that came for the previous tenant to find a final demand and realised there was conflicting addresses which has helped to explain why I’ve had such problems with getting anyone to accept the existence of the property and linking postcode to property.

Very belated Postscript- I hadn’t realised it was Joe Tree Day.
At least there are trees ... and posted in great gratitude for Joe’s inspiration and vision.

Metaphors of a Magnifico - Wallace Stevens

Twenty men crossing a bridge,
Into a village,
Are twenty men crossing twenty bridges,
Into twenty villages,
Or one man
Crossing a single bridge into a village.

This is old song
That will not declare itself . . .

Twenty men crossing a bridge,
Into a village,
Are
Twenty men crossing a bridge
Into a village.

That will not declare itself
Yet is certain as meaning . . .

The boots of the men clump
On the boards of the bridge.
The first white wall of the village
Rises through fruit-trees.
Of what was it I was thinking?
So the meaning escapes.

The first white wall of the village . . .
The fruit-trees . . .
