Good ol’ Gray

“ Full many a flower is born to blush unseen
And waste its sweetness on the desert air. “

It looks like a bumper year for dandelions again, the road verges are covered in them round our way.
I’m reminded of these lines from Thomas Gray’s Elegy in a country churchyard. Do people still learn bits of poetry by heart at school ? It must be more than sixty years since I learnt this, and it’s getting on for three hundred years since the poem was written, but still -
It’s true, innit ?
