Brown's Panorama walk round Louth
In 1844 the spire of St James Church was struck by lightening and a local painter William Brown, a staunch methodist, teetotaller father to 14 children decided to go up the scaffolding and paint a 360° panorama of Louth. It is an amazing work and Louth is rightly proud of the painting.
The Town Council have recently placed 13 plaques around town showing that area as it was in 1844.
Ive chosen the one showing The Mansion House which used to be the Mechanics institute reading room and where the panorama was first shown. Today it is a restaurant and is where we celebrated our golden wedding last summer so any family looking at my blip might recognise it!
The extras show a close up of the mansion house and garden and a portrait of William Brown
It is amazing how much of today's Louth is recognizable on the panorama.
A marks the Mansion House.
