Bromeliad

Looking into its heart, I could see the life this Bromeliad supports. There was a leaf hopper, a minute spider and a mosquito population to rival that of the Everglades. Being a composite flower head, the individual flowers have yellow anthers and a bright blue pistil with an unusually shaped stigma. More tribute to Ukraine!

We have a few of this species of bromeliad in the garden, with the one in the photo growing in the darkest part. Its colours are way brighter than than those getting more light.
