The Lake Returns

With its mouth to the sea at Taumutu now closed, water levels at Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora are now slowly rising.

With a stunning sunset and a shorter walk in prospect, it seemed like a good opportunity to walk out across the flats to the lake edge to take in the serenity.

More maimais (the bird hides as seen here) are being finished off now that the duck shooting season is only a few weeks away. This in turn means that my opportunities to venture out safely on to the lake (especially at dawn) will be somewhat diminished...
