Welcome to the twilight zone

Went to a wedding reception tonight at Brockett Hall in Hertfordshire. a very nice do and a very nice venue. We arrived as it was getting dark and I took the opportunity to step outside and take some shots of the grounds. Hand held, many of the shots were too blurry to use, but some of the shots of the trees which were lit up came out ok, and this one in particular with the evening sky has some nice contrasts.

Over ate, but then isn't that what wedding receptions are all about.

Lucky to have a home to return to this evening. I made myself a bacon bagel for breakfast. The bacon was ready before the bagel so I removed the pan from the gas but didn't turn the gas off. Ate my bagel, washed up and then went upstairs to get ready for swimming. About 30 minutes later, I went to the airing cupboard in the bathroom and smelt a faint wiff of burning. Rummaged around but couldn't see anything amiss so dismissed it.

Went downstairs and fortunately popped into the kitchen where the smell of burning was much more noticeable. Quickly spotted the source. I had placed the rubber wood chopping block I had used to prepare the bagel on top of the stove and the corner had been completely burnt away as it was over the ring that I had left on earlier. Had I gone out swimming without going into the kitchen first who knows what would have happened - I was gone for a good 2 hours. Plenty of time for the chopping block to have caught alight.

Not the first time I have done something like this either. Soon be time to put me in a home, or as the children say, buy me a one way ticket to Amsterdam.

Anyway, the swim was good if a little boring. Swam 114 lengths (2.8 km). only 3 weeks to go before the real thing. 2 weeks where I must get in a few long distance swims and the 3rd week I need to lay off all but the lightest of exercise. Looking forward to that 3rd week :-)
