Another Day

Shands Emporium.

This historical building sits on Hereford Street, where it has since 1860.
It has been one of the surviving buildings from early colonial days.
All the other buildings that surrounded it have been demolished because of the earthquakes. The owner of the building does not want it bulldozed, but to have someone remove it and restore it. You can read about it here..
Years ago I used to work in the building alongside of this, and it has always been quaint.
This used to be a very busy street with banks and shops, now it is empty and used for car parking, for people wanting to go to the Restart shops.
In the latter years I worked in the multi storey building in the background, which is still standing, as it was built to withstand earthquake damage, which it did do, but there is internal damage which has to be restored.
