A chess day in Bütgenbach

E was allowed to fill in for the first team again. He's happy, I'm a little less so, because we had to drive 2.5 hours for it. the day was not without its challenges: the games room had to be somewhere near the church, but was well hidden behind it. it would be wheelchair accessible, but ... see the red line in the photo at the bottom right: there was an impassable threshold, and there was no ramp. luckily we had the manual wheelchair with us. we could lift it in. problem solved luckily. when we wanted to use the disabled toilet inside, this proved impossible: the whole room was full of junk... luckily there was just enough space in the hall in the ladies' room to be able to help E.

E's team seemed to have no chance on paper, on every chessboard the difference was enormous: the opponent had several grandmasters and further international masters. But: four players still managed to draw, and E was one of them! the draws were celebrated as victories :-D

at home I saw that I had once again photographed an airplane without noticing (look close in the red circle on the left photo) thats twice in two days!
