Literal

When I was a child I used to like to imagine what would happen if people took signs absolutely literally. (I still do it sometimes, actually.)
These signs are scattered over the floor of our local supermarket, encouraging us to maintain proper distance. I haven’t seen anyone step on to one, let alone stand on it permanently. Imagine if we did. We would never get the shopping done.
