Repotting
My poor houseplants really needed care. We went to B&Q for potting soil and some larger pots. It was a bittersweetly nostalgic experience because we used to visit often when we had an allotment. Yes, we miss the allotment, but no, we don’t regret giving it up. Watering 7 rods by hand from a distant tap (no hoses allowed) in dry West London was just too much for us as we got older.
An allotment guru once told me that our sites were rainless because of Richmond Hill to the west. I don’t know if that’s true, but I did grow up with a ‘lake effect’ that gave my hometown lighter snow and dumped it instead on Buffalo at the end of Lake Ontario.
I really had to wrestle with our little tree to get it out of the old pot! This plant came to us from our daughter and son in law, left behind when they lived with us for a few months. It’s been a lot healthier since I’ve been looking after it!
