Furness Abbey
Such a warm day we discussed where to walk where it might be shady!
We presumed that as it was Mothers Day Abbey House would have a full car park. So we drove round to the entrance to the ruins and went in there.
Nice that as locals we can get in for free. There were a few paying to go in , some with picnic baskets. A pleasant day for a mothers day picnic too.
We took our time and I clicked away , trying to take different shots from the many I've taken over the years. See collage.
The infirmary building was unlocked so I got a chance to take a photo of the fantastic ceiling.
We then strolled up the path at the back which is now open too.
Some of the buttressing has gone as well as the scaffolding too. Theres been a lot of work on the ruins over the last year to preserve it.
In Victorian times it was overgrown and a lot of the stones were used to build the local houses. Ready cut stones .We think our own house may well be partially built of the Abbey's stone. We found some Mason's marks that indicate this.
Back home and sat in the sun to read. Tee shirt weather!
Thoughts of mum. It really doesnt seem nearly 24 years since she died. It feels like only 6 or 7 years. Memories of her are so strong. It's quite a shock when I look back at all the things weve done since she went. Time is strange.
