Kahu
This is the luxury, Jamaican-flagged, motor yacht Kahu, today moored in Millbay Docks. It was seized 80 miles off the coast of Plymouth in September. When it was intercepted, two tonnes of cocaine were found on board, worth an estimated £160 million. The cocaine, which is believed to have originated in South America was brought across the Atlantic from Barbados. The Kahu was built in New Zealand and is a former New Zealand Navy patrol ship, which was transformed into a luxury yacht by a former New Plymouth business. During the recent trial at Plymouth Crown Court, five Nicaraguan nationals were found not guilty but one UK citizen from the north-east of England is facing a long prison sentence. The Kahu is owned by a syndicate based in the Marshall Islands.
