Heckington Mill

We went to Heckington Mill  near Sleaford today - a wonderful mill with 8 sails. We listened to a talk about a walk over the Lincolnshire Wolds which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The audience was mainly oldies like us but it was very entertaining and the walk described is certainly beautiful and historically interesting. I know that because we have done it!!
It was a walk from Tealbly to Normanby le Wold over the Wolds past many deserted villages and old churches. you also passs through a farm that is keeping the Lincolnshire long wool sheep going. This is an endangered rare breed bred historically for wool. They are beautiful looking sheep with long curly fleeces, no longer in demand as no-one apparently wants to buy fleeces any more.
Several fields were looking very yellow as the rape is already starting to flower. This shows what a mild winter we have had.
