Grandchildren
We have much enjoyed the company of our young talpids during the school holidays and our days on the beach. Now we shall have to put away the buckets and spades until the next time. An opportunity to share with you a poem written by my Canadian cousin, Rhona.
Grandchildren -
The babes you sent, have all grown,
From tender softness, through childhood, youth,
so quickly.
Illusive memories remain, photographs,
Through the house, imagined sounds of childhood,
Adults now, apart from us.
Our need to go back is known to you Father,
To watch the miracle again, more slowly,
more aware,
And so you send precious babes again,
Blessing ours, blessing us.
Now from distance, yet more closely,
We watch each movement, hear each word,
Childhood's laughter,
Bringing tears of joy - yes,
But also heartfelt gratitude, that with love,
You grant a second chance.
