In the wars
The poor cat that we look after has been fighting again. We saw him with a watery eye and did our best to clean it. However, the following day his eye was a mess, very swollen and he was unable to open the inner lid. We truly thought that he would lose his eye. We did an emergency run to the vet. After a thorough examination the vet informed us that the eye could be saved with the use of eye cream, antibiotics and medicine. He also said that we should try to keep him indoors. Our condo does have a no pet policy, although it is well known that a few residents do have cats. We decided to do the right thing and ask our condo manager for permission to keep him in our room until he was better, she said yes. We bought a cage for him to sleep in, plus kitty litter which we put in a paint tray. The first day he had no idea what to do, so I would put him in the tray and then take him outside, I use a belt as a lead. The following day he used the tray. I still take him out on the leash during the day for exercise. He does try to escape from me. Also he wakes up at around 5.30am, I have discovered that by bringing him on to the bed he will settle down again for a couple of hours. He basically needs lots of cuddles and reassurance. Getting medicine and tablets down him has been a bit of a struggle but we did it. As you can see his eye is now much better and we will probably grant him his freedom tomorrow. As I write this he is cuddled up next to me on the sofa. As for the cage he sleeps in sometimes and we pop him in it and lock the door when we go swimming or out for a quick dinner.
