The Castle

Alone, on the top of Shooter's hill, tucked away in old wood land, you will find the derelict castle of Severndroog. It is showing its age, boarded up, and partially vandalised. I remember , when i was just a boy, paying 2p to walk to the top of the tower, and looking over Kent and London, though even then it was obscured by trees, so the view up there is probably further comprised, being surrounded by tall might oaks. It also had a tea room, and nearby tended gardens and putting green, much of which is also gone.

Good news is that after almost thirty years of rangling, work is soon to start on a full restoration...it's website is here.. though I wonder how much more it will be when finished to go up that spiral staircase and look upon the tops of trees !.
