Birds Eat Flowers!

I had to look it up, even though it was happening right in front of me: birds eat flowers. Why? because they're delicious and nutritious! they also spread pollen around, which helps the trees. It did seem to me, however, that they were wantonly shredding whatever blossoms they could reach and generally making a mess. It was really fun to watch them grab the petals and shake them around, but I couldn't tell if they actually swallowed anything. It's a redbud tree and a house finch.
